Twitter Shutting Down Vine, But Why?

Social network web site Twitter recently confirmed that they will be officially shutting down the app, Vine. Word is: “We are sharing the news that in the coming months we’ll be discontinuing the mobile app.” Following the news, one of Vine’s three founders Rus Yusupov posted on Twitter: “Don’t sell your company!”

At present, Twitter did not explain why they made the decision to shut down Vine. On the other hand, the announcement was made aftetr Twitter unveiled plans to cut 9% of its workforce. Ian Fogg, an analyst at the tech consultancy IHS Markit, told the BBC: “Twitter was all about setting a constraint on communication – 140 characters – and with Vine it tried to do the same to video. The problem is that Vine didn’t keep pace with the innovation from Snapchat, Facebook and other players in the market.”
