Besides our real-time video analytics, one of the most talked about additions to our 3.8 video platform release is Live Images Support. Following industry trends if you choose us to encode your videos, you’ll have an option to use either screenshot or, what we call, ‘live image’ of your video that can be used instead of a snapshot.
Photos do not move, we all know that. But the popularity of GIF-style images and iPhone Live Photos (introduced with the iPhone 6s back in 2015) made us rethink our video preview strategy, so we experimented a bit and looked for the best possible live image solution. We’ve opted out for a new image format, called WebP, which allows us to create smaller, richer images that make the upload faster. Preview your videos with Live Images Click To Tweet
Live Images are, basically, a small 5-second preview of your video. The live image will appear in your player when a user moves the cursor over your player. Keep in mind that a live image will be present in the player only if your player is click-to-play.
This feature is currently only supported on Google Chrome and Opera on desktop. Other browser support is planned in the future once they start supporting the new webp standard.
To see live images at work, move your mouse over the video below and be sure to watch it over Chrome browser.
