Chrome Pauses Flash
On October 1st, Chrome paused Flash-based advertising or peripheral content. That practically means all video consumers now have to manually click on video players smaller than 400×300 pixels to enable playback. Google Chrome is a very popular web browser, stats show around 50% of internet consumers are using this browser. Regardless of its popularity, users have not been fully satisfied with its effect on their notebook’s power consumption, and they blame mainly Flash content for that. This is why Google has come up with a solution for Chrome to automatically pause ‘nonessential’ Flash content. The state of Q1 2015 shows 5.35 billion rich media impressions were thrown away on mobile devices, as they defaulted to Flash instead of HTML5. IAB to Set HTML5 as the New Industry Standard
IAB recommends that the industry should migrate from Flash to HTML5 tech. IAB is going to set HTML5 as the new industry standard in interactive marketing, and discard Flash, who have advertisers used for a long time as a standard for making interactive ads online. HTML5 has proven more effective than Flash as it shown to be a more open web technology for which the browser support cross-platform sets the stage for more rich, complete and personalized experiences to share with users, regardless the device they use. The initial battle with Flash began in 2010 when the late Steve Jobs of Apple stated Flash is unnecessary and resources heavy. Flash has been criticized by many of the big boys from the tech industry for being a security risk and a CPU and battery drain on the system. The state of Q1 2015 shows 5.35 billion rich media impressions were thrown away on mobile devices, as they defaulted to Flash instead of HTML5.
